Sunset Crater is located about 12 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona. This National Monument is a good place to get a close up look at a cinder cone without having to go to Hawaii. There are short trails through lava fields. If you are driving back to Flagstaff from the south rim of the Grand Canyon it is worth stopping by to see Sunset Crater.
